LEGO Reveals the Batman Returns Batmobile, and It Splits Into the Batmissile
LEGO officially unveiled 76355 Batman Returns Batmobile on 18 August, the first time Tim Burton’s 1992 vehicle has been recreated in brick form. The 2,269-piece set launches early for LEGO Insiders on 1 September, going wide on 4 September, priced at £189.99 / $229.99 / €209.99.
The headline feature is a lift-arm transformation mechanism. Press between the rear wings and the two sides of the vehicle drop away to reveal the narrow Batmissile escape car rolling through the centre, recreating the exact sequence from the film. The set also includes six hidden Easter eggs, a slide-open cockpit and a new Batman minifigure with a moulded cape and cowl based on Michael Keaton’s costume.
Why it matters for builders: it completes the Tim Burton trilogy of display models alongside 76139 1989 Batmobile and 76161 1989 Batwing, but at roughly 1,000 fewer pieces than its 2019 predecessor. Fans have already noted the absence of Penguin or Catwoman minifigures, which feels like a missed opportunity given the film’s cast, but the working transformation gives this Batmobile a genuine interactive identity that the static 1989 version never had.
Nike Air Force 1 Gets the LEGO Treatment, Astronaut Included
The LEGO x Nike partnership rolled on this week with 43026 Nike Air Force 1, a 1,093-piece display build launching on 1 September for £89.99 / $99.99 / €99.99. The set recreates Bruce Kilgore’s 1982 basketball sneaker mounted on a rocket-blast stand, complete with a Classic Space astronaut minifigure whose torso print swaps the usual planet logo for a Nike Swoosh.
Turning a dial on the base sends the minifigure through a 360-degree dunk over the shoe’s outsole-patterned plinth. It joins the earlier Nike Dunk and Air Max 95 sets in the collaboration, and the Classic Space crossover has already got long-time fans talking about where the astronaut theme might go next.
Two LEGO Ideas Projects Cross 10,000 Supporters
LEGO Ideas had a busy week on the fan side too. Pablo Sánchez’s Tennis Match project passed 10,000 supporters on 19 August, becoming the platform’s first serious tennis-focused submission and advancing to the next review stage. Just days earlier, Jimmi-DK’s Train Bookends design, a pair of steam-locomotive bookends with lift-off roofs and five minifigures, also crossed the threshold, arriving just three days after the same builder’s previous 10K success with the Chameleon.
Why it matters for builders: both now join the growing queue of qualified projects heading into LEGO’s next review period. Neither is guaranteed production, but the tennis theme in particular fills a gap LEGO has barely touched outside a handful of Collectible Minifigures.
